OUT OF SIGHT: TRAILER
(PHONE RINGING. PICK UP.)
KAPLAN: Kaplan speaking.
CLIENT 1: (FILTER) You are Roy Kaplan, the private investigator?
KAPLAN: Sure, if you need something found or something found out, I’m the man for the job. What do you need?
(MUSIC BEGINS.)
GHOST 1: I need you to find who killed me!
GHOST 2: You must be nuts. I can’t be dead–you’re talking to me, aren’t you?
KAPLAN: Yeah, because I talk to dead people! Get with the program.
CLIENT 2: I want you to figure out who took this device and why, and I want you to take it back. Can you do that?
(DRINKING GLASS SLAM ON TABLE.)
KAPLAN: Fine! Maybe it’s rotten. Maybe someone’s pulled a dirty trick. The hell do you want me to do about it?
WES: I think you ought to find out what happened, Roy.
CLIENT 3: You’re the fastest safecracker I’ve ever met. I’ve never known anyone who can crack locks like you do.
(SAFE IS UNLOCKED AND OPENED.)
KAPLAN: A client of mine had something stolen. I’m just getting it back for her.
THIEF: A client? Since when are you a thief for hire?
WES: This is a bad idea.
KAPLAN: You think all my ideas are bad ideas.
WES: Just tell your client what happened and protect yourself for once in your damn life. You’re a thief and a con man, Roy–you don’t even care about this kind of crime!
KAPLAN: Just stick with me, Wes. I think you’ll understand when you see it for yourself.
(DOOR UNLOCKS AND OPENS.)
WES: Roy! Get down!
(GUNSHOT. GLASS SHATTER. BODY FALLS.)
(MUSIC FADES OUT.)
CLIENT 1: (FILTER) You will take the case, won’t you?
KAPLAN: Sure. There’s not a lot I won’t do for a thousand credits. Why don’t I stop by and take a look?
